My patio scene

Dear Fellow Bird Watchers,

Welcome to my blog. I live in Cortland, New York, the southeastern region of the Finger Lakes between Syracuse and Binghamton.

I’m a birdwatcher, very amateur photographer, and freelance writer. I have a knack for spotting hummingbirds and then scaring them off with one subtle move. On my blog, I have fun tagging local establishments while spinning quirky tales and often allowing my control freakish issues about my bird feeders.

Birdwatching is a joyful hobby even though Central New York often has gloomy weather. Think, ‘It was a dark and stormy night meets Groundhog Day.’
I understand the challenges of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and the mental health struggles many New Yorkers face. While I may touch on these topics, I only share my own experiences, always aiming to keep things respectful.”

My patio is a five-star diner for goldfinches, cardinals, finches, and the occasional Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. Hummingbirds trick my eyesight but they know what they’re doing. I’ve also added a ‘Bird Related’ category for birding type questions.

Mourning Doves forever try to crash the party along with some other unwanted guests. From the perch behind my sliding glass doors, I am armed with binoculars, a notebook, and my iPhone. I’m ready for anything.

When I wander away from my feeders, I take my Canon PowerShot SX50 with me. My curiosity often leads me to explore the best birding trails in the Finger Lakes region. I will admit it’s rather trial and error with my camera (and my knees). Each click reveals a new step I haven’t quite mastered yet. I am always chasing after the elusive ‘perfect shot.’ Meanwhile, my camera teases me with all its hidden features.

My Birding Journal is sprinkled with humor and local flavor. Expect tips on attracting feathered friends, tales of backyard drama, and the occasional rant about those pesky, uninvited guests.

Enjoy my blog!
